Check Out Nissan NISMO

Nissan NISMO is derived from Nissan Motorsport and is the definitive Nissan performance option. An exclusive team of engineers and test drivers take select Nissan vehicles and transform them into specialty NISMO road cars that offer a uniquely thrilling experience.

Nissan is dedicated to the idea that the joy of owning and driving a NISMO vehicle should be available to every car enthusiast. That’s why Nissan offers a NISMO option on a wide range of vehicles, including the GT-R, 370-Z, and Sentra. NISMO puts you in the sweet spot of track-inspired performance, wrapped into a road car that you can feel comfortable driving on your daily commute.

The Nissan NISMO

The Human Touch

Nissan’s performance legacy began more than 80 years ago and continues today, forged on the most unforgiving proving ground — the racetrack. Over those 80 years, Nissan has collected extensive data about how to make race cars perform well on the track. While it is important, data will only tell you so much. It takes a special kind of genius — a uniquely human touch — to take science and turn it into a living, breathing, exhilarating machine.

Great handling doesn’t just result from data, it requires great design and human engineering.

The NISMO development team is made up of more than just racecar drivers focused on the fastest lap time. The team focuses on how the vehicle feels and how it creates excitement and thrills, whether on the street or the track.

The leader of the NISMO team is Hiroyoshi Kato, Nissan Technical Meister. Kato began driving for Nissan by testing the R32 GT-R in 1988. For twelve years Kato served as Nissan’s racing development lead and tested and refined nearly every Nissan performance vehicle on the Nürburgring race track in Germany. Kato is not easily satisfied, and once a Nissan has his seal of approval, you’ll feel the magic every time you are behind the wheel.

“My responsibility is to make the car enjoyable for the customers both on the track and on the road. Racing drivers like Hahne and Krumm can manage a vicious horse. My task as a test driver is to tame the harshness—setting my aggressive personality aside.” — Hiroyoshi Kato, Nissan Technical Meister

The top NISMO development drivers work directly with key engineers to make sure every detail is perfect. Creating a NISMO goes beyond engineering data to draw on a lifetime of human experience in engineering, racing, and product development. NISMO development is trusted to a legendary few, creating a truly personal vision of NISMO performance.

Relentless Development

The NISMO team of elite race drivers and engineers work together as a team of master craftsman. Testing and engineering leads to perfection of the NISMO driving experience for each vehicle. Regardless of the model, when you step on the throttle you’ll feel how race-proven engineering makes every trip through the gears memorable. Strong low-end torque creates a quick throttle response, a wide power band drives you strongly to speed, and the unique growl of the exhaust note sings a race driver’s symphony.

Hundreds of combinations of brakes, wheels and tires are tested on the street and the track to match the right level of performance with the NISMO chassis. The right tires, properly tuned shocks and coils, and the right wheel stiffness assure flawless performance. Turn into a corner and the steering telegraphs everything the car is doing. Brake hard and feel the control that a perfectly balanced chassis and precise handling delivers.

You feel NISMO through the steering wheel, the seat of your pants, and the pedals. Every NISMO features a competition-tuned suspension with enhancements like chassis reinforcements, enhanced bushings, upgraded shocks and stiffer springs to create incredible handling and precision. Your NISMO responds to your input as though it anticipates your every move. Deeply bolstered sport seats hold you tight in the corners. Alcantara® cloth on the NISMO specialty steering wheel assures your hands won’t slip.

Hand-Built Quality

Every Nissan vehicle goes through years of testing and development before entering production. The NISMO team takes Nissan’s well-designed passenger vehicles and further upgrades them into exclusive performance vehicles.

NISMO models start off being assembled on the production line, just like the stock version. But when the other vehicles are done, the NISMO models have an extended hand-built journey ahead.

The Unique Nissan NISMO Lineup

NISMO versions leave the assembly line and move to the NISMO development center to receive a series of body and chassis stiffness reinforcements. Large diameter structural supports and high-performance suspension components are installed. Each chassis part is installed by a unique team, checking and double-checking every detail, bushing, nut and bolt.

Highly trained and specialized technicians then apply the unique NISMO body parts, including side sills and rear spoilers. To ensure proper alignment and fit, each part is hand-inspected. Every NISMO vehicle features these body enhancements for pure performance.

Painstaking engineering design assures these body enhancements provide the ultimate racing efficiency. Spoilers provide massive downforce to increase cornering and braking grip. Details like a rear diffuser and side sills reduce drag to increase speed and acceleration. Sharp looks and eye-catching style are additional benefits.

After the unique NISMO parts are installed, every NISMO is hand-painted. To achieve the required quality, the spoilers, side sills and bumpers are painted in three separate steps. Each step requires a special masking process (unique to NISMO models) where the technician hand-masks each layer of color. These extra steps ensure superior durability and the best workmanship. Then the NISMO badging is placed — the seal of approval on a unique hand-built race car.
