Nissan Unveils The New Nissan Ariya

On July 15, 2020, Nissan unveiled the new Nissan Ariya. The futuristic SUV is an all-electric vehicle built to run 300 miles on a single charge. But Ariya is so much more.

A sophisticated yet simple exterior wraps around a spacious, modern interior. Ariya’s striking looks represent Nissan’s new design language — Timeless Japanese Futurism. It is characterized by a distinctive Japanese approach, conveyed in a simple yet powerfully modern way.

The 2021 Ariya is loaded with advanced driver assistance technologies for stress-free driving, making it the most advanced embodiment of Nissan Intelligent Mobility in a car to date. The next-generation ProPILOT Assist 2.0 advanced driver assistance system enables hands-off single-lane highway operation and even monitors driver attention. The e-Pedal lets the driver start, accelerate, and decelerate with only the accelerator pedal.

Ariya also includes Nissan Safety Shield® 360, a suite of six advanced active safety- and driver-assist technologies. Key features include standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.

The voice interface allows you to use natural speech to adjust the car settings, instead of the more formal set of voice commands typically used in other vehicles. Amazon’s Alexa can help you simplify and organize your life — even while driving. Alexa helps you play music, listen to audiobooks, get directions, make phone calls, control your smart home, and more. You can do all of this with just your voice — so you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. And wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ helps you integrate your smartphone into your Ariya experience.

Nissan’s designers took advantage of the car’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) platform, which allows for a spacious, flat-floor cabin. The flat floor allows for plenty of leg and foot room, without dividing the car into little close-fitting areas. The lounge-like interior, featuring a sliding console and thin profile Zero Gravity seats, provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for the driver and passengers. The infotainment screen and gauge cluster are one piece of simplified, curved glass with a touch interface – making it easy for the driver to read.

Ariya is efficient and well designed. Front wheel drive is standard, which is easier to drive in snow and other bad weather. Front wheel drive also increases the roominess of the interior, by putting most of the drivetrain components forward of the passenger compartment. It also decreases weight because the drivetrain doesn’t need to run the length of the vehicle. This efficiency also carries through in the two-battery e-4ORCE all-wheel drive version, which only sacrifices 1.5 cubic feet of cargo area.

The all-electric drivetrain in Ariya combines excellent power delivery, charging capabilities and range. With up to 386 horsepower in the twin-motor e-4ORCE version, Ariya promises the powerful acceleration and smooth, quiet operation typical of electric vehicles. You can choose from multiple configurations, including two different battery sizes in either the two-wheel-drive and new e-4ORCE all-wheel drive version. The e-4ORCE all-wheel control system provides sports car-level power, but balances that incredible performance with a comfortable ride and all-weather capability.

Two different battery sizes are available, with a 63.0-kWh battery standard or if you want more range, a larger 87.0-kWh pack is available. The battery in both versions is liquid-cooled with a thermal management system, improving its efficiency, durability, and safety.

“The Ariya, a key model in Nissan’s plan to roll out 10 new models in 20 months, demonstrates our commitment to meeting customer demand for crossovers with the most advanced electrified, automated and connected technologies,” said Nissan Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta. “The Ariya will play a significant role in attaining that goal.”

The all-new Nissan Ariya is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2021, and pricing will start around $40,000.
